Aluminum Storefront Installation in Seattle

Storefront is the face of a building at street level, and the details decide how it looks and works for years. Square frames, true plumb and clean reveals matter here more than anywhere. Sheldrup Building Services Co. installs commercial aluminum storefront systems for general contractors, architects, owners and retailers across King County and north through Marysville.

Commercial aluminum storefront with glass entrance doors

What aluminum storefront is

Aluminum storefront is a framed glazing system typically used at ground level, in openings about one story tall. It combines aluminum framing, glass and entrance doors to create shopfronts, lobbies and entries. It is different from curtain wall, which is an exterior wall system designed to span multiple stories.

What we install

  • Aluminum storefront systems
  • Storefront entry doors
  • High-performance insulated glazing
  • Tempered, laminated and specialty glass
  • Glass canopies and vestibules
  • Curtain wall and window wall for taller assemblies

Choosing the right glass

An insulated glass unit (IGU) is two or more panes of glass separated by a sealed air space, which improves comfort and energy performance compared with a single pane. Glass at entrances and other locations may need to be tempered or laminated safety glazing, depending on code requirements. We review the glass requirements for your opening, and we can match tint, coatings and finishes to an existing storefront.

From consultation to installation

We approach each project as a partnership. The process runs from initial consultation through takeoff, fabrication and installation, and we have in-house fabrication capabilities. Our team carries design intent from the first shop drawing to the final installation. For new construction, we coordinate with the general contractor and the architect's specification. For tenant improvements and renovations, we start with a site assessment of the existing openings. Our free site assessment and detailed proposal give you a clear scope before work begins, so owners, architects and general contractors know what is included. Ask us about entry door hardware and glass types at the same time, so the whole opening is planned together.

Frequently asked questions

What is an IGU?

An insulated glass unit is two or more panes of glass separated by a sealed air space. If the seal fails, the unit can fog and may need replacement.

What is the difference between storefront and curtain wall?

Storefront is typically a ground-level, single-story system. Curtain wall is a non-structural exterior wall that can span multiple stories.

Can you match an existing storefront?

We review tint, coatings, glass thickness and finishes so new glass suits the surrounding system, and we match existing finishes wherever the system allows.
